Description of event:
The triumph of rights - Diwali Celebrations
The volunteer group of CRY UK organised a Diwali celebration on 22 October, 2005 at Hogs Head in London . The pub was decorated with traditional rangoli and diyas, lights, flowers and festive decor. All the guests were welcomed with a traditional tika. There were around 225 guests dressed in traditional Indian clothes. Everyone was drawn to the dance floor by some excellent Bollywood music played by the DJ. Having built up an appetite, there was sumptuous Indian food waiting to tickle the taste buds.
The fireworks display was a perfect way to end the Diwali celebrations. The guests departed with a parting gift and best wishes for Diwali from the CRY team.
"Thanks for the Diwali Party. We are having a great time; is wonderful to listen to Indian music again and get dancing to it. The food is great and so are the decorations and fireworks. The pub is nice and roomy; so all in all we are having a great time. We are looking forward to working with the CRY team for future events." Said one of the guests attending the celebrations. "This is a great way to welcome Diwali with my friends. And it makes it better as its for a good cause." - expressed another guest.
The funds raised from this event would support various CRY UK supported projects like the girl child project in Hyderabad, project for the physically and mentally disadvantaged children in Jaipur and Hooghly and a project that supports the tribal and minority community in Jharkhand.
